At the Stanford Food Design Lab, we have been dedicated to promoting innovation in the food industry. Our goal is to bring together innovators, academics, and practitioners in the field of food design to explore new ideas and innovations.

Research

 

Our research interests lie in the intersection of food, design, and innovation. Our current research topics include, but are not limited to: excavating food needs in a large online dataset, discovering Gen Z’s food needs, analyzing the new product development process of food startups, inventing new design methods to enhance human-centered food design, and speculating the future of foods.

To ensure that we remain abreast of the latest developments in our industry, we’ve established a strong network comprising food researchers, start-ups, major corporations, and educators. In order to encourage collaboration among these stakeholders, we organize events such as the annual Food Innovation Conference and interactive workshops to share, discuss, and connect around topics centering food innovation.

We leverage our research findings and extensive industry networks to offer a diverse range of educational opportunities to various audiences. At the forefront of our education efforts are Stanford students, but we’ve also provided workshops for food startups and larger corporations, joint research opportunities for visiting scholars, as well as food entrepreneurship bootcamps for K-12 students.
